Process

For nearly 20 years I have created hundreds of portraits with LEGO® bricks for people all around the world.  And for the past 5 years I have become fascinated with the bold colorfulness of LEGO bricks by making bombastic bold rainbow-colored sculptures.  Evolving from both of these ideas, this portrait, “Brooklyn”, is the first in a series that combines the two themes into one.

I’ve been incredibly excited about the new LEGO DOTS and LEGO ART product lines ever since they were released in 2020, and I have finally produced my first work using the expanded color pallet that these provide.

Brooklyn began as an original digital illustration, which I re-drew as pixel art, and finally built with over 27,000 flat round LEGO® pieces.
