Donald Shoup was an influential and distinguished economist, author, and academic that sought to help solve a lot of the problems plaguing the car-centric design of American cities. I created two versions of this portrait, one with a standard blue background, and another that has symbolism of his mantras and teachings about transportation reform.

I created this portrait shortly before his passing in early 2025. Afterwards I took some photos of the portrait on the street outside my studio in Amsterdam. I like to think that Dr. Shoup would have liked knowing he was set amongst parked bikes, cobblestones, and microcars on the woonernf where the portrait was created.

I have created hundreds of portraits with LEGO bricks, but it was an honor to creating these. One was set on display at a transportation and mobility expo in early 2025, and the other is now part of a permanent art collection in the United States.
