Lizzy

I really enjoy making cartoon sculpture with LEGO bricks. I think this is the perfect medium to create colorful, squashy playful shapes! So without further ado, meet Lizzy the Lizard! (Yes, I am terrible with names.). 😜

This sculpture measures about 165cm (5.5 feet) tall and took about a month to design and build using more than 24,000 LEGO pieces. I love making natural, organic shapes that belie the rigid rectangular form of the LEGO bricks themselves.

Behind the scenes

The sculpture is built around a custom-welded steel frame for stability. (Hiding stiff strong steel bars inside such wiggly thin little amphibian legs was no easy task!)

The art of the brick-based sculptures that Sean builds is evident in the quality of his craft.

Every LEGO piece is a standard off-the-shelf part that you can find in a LEGO set at the toy store — there are no custom colors or shapes, and every piece is connected together the way that LEGO bricks are meant to be used. The entire sculpture took about a month to build in my studio in Amsterdam, and was later shipped to a customer in The United States.
