Part of Brick Planet

An exhibition of sculptures built with LEGO bricks

This mural is part of an exploration of color and texture with LEGO bricks. It’s an evolution of my recent foray into making bombastic colorful sculptures, hundreds of portraits over the past 20 years, and rainbow kids with a new expanded LEGO color palette.

The mural is a 2-dimensional interpretation of my sculpture Bicycle Triumphs Traffic set atop a blast of color in a rainbow explosion.

I love riding my bike because it doesn’t get stuck in traffic.  This mural illustrates a giant bicycle, triumphing over a clogged up blob of gook representing a smoggy traffic jam and our carbon footprint.  Cycling is the healthy, fun, pleasant Earth-friendly alternative to motorized transportation.

This mural began as an original digital illustration drawn as pixel art and then built with over 27,000 LEGO® pieces. The piece measures 45″ x 60″ (150 x 115cm).

Build it yourself!

You can build this too! My traveling exhibition Brick Planet features an interactive art station with a paint-by-number style canvas where you and other visitors can help build a new copy of this mural and several others, for everyone to enjoy! Check to see if Brick Planet is visiting your city and come by and have fun!
